ABC Certified Pet Groomer
Kelly Alexander is an ABC Certified Groomer and is also in the process of becoming an ABC Certified Dog Trainer. She lives in Anderson, South Carolina and currently works part time for Pampered Paws grooming salon. When she is not grooming, Kelly is caring for her two young children and husband, training her sixth month old cattle dog, Mesa, and riding one of her three horses.
Her interest in grooming sprouted 10 years ago when she was hired as a bather at a local boarding kennel. There, Kelly had the opportunity to apprentice under a wonderful groomer and learned the basics of dog grooming. After working many years in the field, Kelly decided that she wanted to pursue her career as a professional dog groomer and took the first step by enrolling in ABC’s Grooming Instruction Program. Kelly was extremely happy with her Program Manager, Colleen, and the other people who helped her along the way. She says “the ABC staff is so helpful and kind. My Program Manager was able to answer questions, was very easy to contact and always ready with a positive caring attitude. I had a great support group throughout my time at the college.” Kelly would recommend the ABC Grooming Instruction Program for someone who is committed, determined, and likes the independence of the program. In her opinion, the ABC curriculum outlines the fundamentals of dog grooming for a beginning groomer while at the same time provides a greater learning experience for an experienced groomer.
Since her introduction to grooming, Kelly is committed to improving her grooming skills and learning new techniques. Her favorite breeds to groom include Shi Tzu’s because there are a wide variety of cuts that can be performed, Schnauzers because she loves the sharp look to the head, and Poodles just because they are fun to do. In addition, she enjoys educating owners about the importance and benefits of keeping a well groomed pet.
Kelly strongly believes that the success of a groomer directly connected to how much the person loves what they are doing. She comments, “It can be a very challenging job, or it can be tedious, but you must have love and patience. That’s how I knew I was going to be successful in grooming. I love putting a dog on the table, turning on the radio, singing, and start shaping away to see the end result.” Kelly is continuing to improve her grooming skills at Pampered Paws and hopes to work as a full time groomer in the future.
