Licensure
Bureau for Private Postsecondary Education (BPPE)
Animal Behavior College is a private vocational school approved by the Bureau for Private Postsecondary Education (www.bppe.ca.gov) under the California Private Postsecondary Education Act of 2009 and Title 5. California Code of Regulations Division 7.5. Private Postsecondary Education. The Bureau for Private Postsecondary Education approval means that this institution and its operation comply with the standards established under the law for occupational instruction by private postsecondary educational institutions. Institutional approval is subject to continual review and the institution must reapply for approval every five years.

Animal Behavior College has an A+ rating with the Better Business Bureau. ABC has held the BBB accreditation since May 16, 2006.

Certifications and Approvals
ABC has certified more dog trainers, veterinary assistants and groomers than anyone else in the United States. As of May 2024 ABC has over 38,500 certified graduates.
While ABC provides both education and certification, we embrace the idea that graduates may increase their career potential by adding more individual certifications after graduation. Toward that end goal, ABC consistently updates its programs to prepare students to sit for independent certification examinations.

Dog Obedience Instructor graduates:
Certification Council for Professional Dog Trainers (CCPDT)
CPDT’s mission is to establish and maintain humane standards of competence for dog training and behavior professionals. The ABC Dog Obedience Instructor program is designed to assist learners who are pursuing the Certified Professional Dog Trainer-Knowledge Assessed (CPDT-KA®) Certification.
Veterinary Assistant Program graduates:
National Association of Veterinary Technicians in America (NAVTA)
NAVTA is an association whose mission is to advance veterinary nursing and veterinary technology. The ABC Veterinary Assistant Program is designed to assist learners who are pursuing this certification. ABC’s Veterinary Assistant Program is approved by NAVTA. Only students who graduate from NAVTA-approved veterinary assistant schools will be given the opportunity to take the national exam to become an Approved Veterinary Assistant (AVA).

Grooming Instruction Program graduates:
National Dog Groomers Association of America (NDGAA)
Founded in 1969, the National Dog Groomers Association of America engages in promotion of excellence in professional grooming standards offering certification testing, and grooming competitions. The ABC Grooming Instruction program is designed to assist learners who are pursuing this certification.
Aside from the aforementioned organizations offering national independent certifications, below are numerous other groups, organizations and agencies that recognize ABC and approve some or all of our programs.
International Association of Animal Behavior Consultants (IAABC)
IAABC was founded in 2004 as an organization that supports the practice of animal behavior consulting. They currently have more than 1,400 members throughout the world.
IAABC has approved the following ABC programs: Dog Trainer Program, Veterinary Assistant Program, Dog Groomer Program, Cat Trainer Program and Short Term Programs
International Association of Canine Professionals (IACP)
Founded in 1999, the International Association of Canine Professionals is an organization welcoming all canine professionals and dog lovers. Its mission is to support the education and development of professional dog trainers worldwide.
IACP has approved the following ABC program: Dog Trainer Program
National Association of Dog Obedience Instructors (NADOI)
Founded in 1965, NADOI is a professional organization whose members demonstrate proficiency in humane dog training methods.
NADOI has approved the following ABC programs: Dog Trainer Program, Veterinary Assistant Program, Dog Groomer Program, Cat Trainer Program and Short Term Programs
Military Spouse Career Advancement Account (MyCAA)
MyCAA is a career development program for U.S. military spouses. Sponsored by the Department of Defense, eligible military spouses may receive up to $4,000 toward their tuition.
MyCAA has approved the following ABC programs for participation in the MyCAA scholarship: Dog Trainer Program, Veterinary Assistant Program and Dog Groomer Program
US Department of Veterans Affairs (VA)
The United States Department of Veterans Affairs is a federal agency that assists veterans. Our On-site Dog Trainer Program is approved and available to veterans and other eligible persons under the provisions of Title 38, United States Code.
