I offer private lessons in your home or chosen location (e.g., park, etc.). Trainings typically run for 6 weeks and teach the skills that will help your pet become a polite, happy member of your family.
You will receive advice and instruction on how to improve your dog’s life and well-being, as well as helpful direction for dealing with behavioral issues as they arise. We will structure lessons to meet your needs as well as your pet’s. While we can modify lessons to accommodate additional training needs, basic obedience training covers the following: sit, down, stay, come, heel, loose leash walking, wait, leave it and polite greetings.
Biography
I have been training dogs and horses since I was about 17 years old and currently volunteer with Sunshine Big Dog Rescue.
With an educational background in Psychology and Education/Training, I understand how both dogs and people learn best. My goal is to teach people to teach their dogs to behave politely and enhance the relationship between pets and people.
My credentials include completion of online training and a hands-on externship through Animal Behavior College (ABCDT and Pet CPR/First-Aid certifications) and an ABC course specializing in Training Shelter Pets. I am a proud member of the Association of Professional Dog Trainers and The Pet Professional Guild, and I continue taking seminars (CEUs) on training methods, animal learning, body language and behavior.
We provide positive reinforcement training and follow the LIMA (Least Intrusive Minimally Aversive) approach. We never use force, fear, or physical punishment to get a dog to perform a behavior. Our dogs want to please us, and when we make good behavior rewarding for them, they will happily and willingly comply.
