My name is Ashley Mapes. I am a certified dog trainer, certified through Animal Behavior College
I have been working with dogs since 2005, training professionally since 2011.
I use positive, reward-based methods to help with even the most frustrating dogs. I do use tools, but only at the owners agreement and ONLY WHEN NEEDED. I also encourage researching how gentle an ACTUAL e collar (e collar technologies, dogtra, Garmin, etc) is when used PROFESSIONALLY.The same with prong collars (must be herm sprenger or kirkland).
ANY DOG can be trained. Training is all about consistency, clear communication, time, and lots of praise.
Ashley Mapes Dogs is located 20mi SE of Des Moines just off of Hwy 5. We offer a variety of training services, as well as boarding and professional pet photography.
I can travel anywhere in Iowa. I am based out of the Des Moines area.

1. *TRAINING ASSESSMENT SESSION*
30 min long session. Consists of trainer’s assessment, training/training suggestions, and setting up training/booking.
Basically, a session to allow the trainer to see the dog’s behavior to make more accurate training recommendations.
I recommend an assessment for most “per session in-home training” and “training plans in-home”, especially involving problem behaviors.
(Assessment required for aggression cases, especially when wanting board and train)
Price is $30 + $0.40/mile.

2. *BOARD & TRAIN*
If you want me to do all the work, or you need FAST results:
I offer in my home boarding and training where your dog’s boarding-training experience is just like home.
During the daytime they have (supervised) free roam of our family home with other boarders (works like daycare, play styles are matched, usually we only take on 1 training case, but may have boarders) and the resident dog and cats. They spend their nights in a comfy and spacious kennel for the safety and wellfare of everyone involved, dogs can have iasues qith others, and your pet’s safety is our highest priority.
While they are here they get 1-2 hours of outside interactive play and exercise fun on top of all the potty outings, daily. Training is broken into several (4) small sessions throughout the day, and manners and polite behavior are constantly and consistently reinforced.
Interaction with other pets present in the home provides socialization, which is essential for the proper development of puppies and beneficial to dogs of all ages.
This service is the quickest and most efficient route to getting your dog to do, or not do, behaviors.

TRAINING DAY CAMP:
Just like board and train, only you drop off in the morning, pick up at night. All training requires owners to make some changes at home to keep training consistent.
Price for Training Day Camp is $40/day.

3. *ONE ON ONE IN HOME*
An individualized, one on one training experience, in the comfort of your home. Homework/practice is assigned each session (the success of the training relies on the owner practicing cues daily and following/implementing trainer recommended changes).
I offer TRAINING PROGRAMS, TRAINING PLANS, and PER SESSION TRAINING (all are in-home training).
-TRAINING PROGRAMS are 6 week long courses of training. Trainer meets with owner and dog 1 time per week for a training session. Each session is 45 min long.

-TRAINING PLANS are a customized plan (based on your training needs) to meet 1 time per week for at least 3 weeks. (Price is a bundled rate and costs less than per session training)
Recommended if you want to focus on training a specific set of cues, or if you need problem-solving or getting rid of bad behaviors (ex. Barking excessively, digging, jumping up, knocking people down, destructive behavior, separation anxiety, etc).
Also recommended for some aggression cases (assessment required).
-PER SESSION TRAINING is training done session by session. ($50 + $0.40 per mile round)
Recommended for owners who don’t want a long-term plan or want to go one week at a time. Also for owners who just want one cue trained.

4. *DOGGIE DAY CARE*
I offer daily pet sitting and over the weekend overnights. I have experience with small dogs, large dogs, dogs with behavior problems, and even special needs dogs. I can administer medications, am capable of giving injections. I’ve seen it all as far as rescues go, so taking care of your baby will be my pleasure. I ALSO OFFER TRAINING WHILE AT DAYCARE.
Just pet sitting costs $20/weekday and $25/weekend-day.
Adding 1 10min training session is $5 or get 3 10min training sessions for $12.

5. Boarding
Boarding, in a family home, with other boarders, resident dogs, and cats. Crated st night for everyone’s safety and well-being.
Owner supplies food. Can send blankets, toys (they either need to be kennel only toys or okay to lose toys because they often will stash things), kennels, etc.
This boarding has some requirements: your dog must be approved by Ashley Mapes (trainer).
General rules: no aggression (mild can be worked through), gets along well with other dogs. If you have questions ask. 🙂 Boarding is $40/day
The dog must have all shots, be worm free, and treated for fleas and ticks.
