OUR HISTORY
Founded in 1998 by U.S. military veteran Steve Appelbaum, Animal Behavior College was built around a gap in the market. Before ABC, aspiring pet professionals had only two paths: expensive campus-based programs, or online courses with no hands-on component. Neither option was ideal.
ABC pioneered a third model - combining flexible online learning with real-world externship training in students' own communities. That approach proved so effective that ABC expanded from a single dog training program into 7 nationally recognized certifications spanning dog training, veterinary assisting, pet grooming, cat training, aquarium maintenance, zookeeper assisting, and service dog training.
Today, ABC has trained over 36,000+ animal care professionals across the United States and Canada - and we are just getting started.
